[Apr. 6th, 2008|10:25 pm] |
but i'm trying to be.
week 1: 10.5 miles, 2:10:00
i'm off to a slow start, but that is what everyone recommends. this isn't week 1 of running, per se, but it's my first week of taking it seriously and logging my distances and whatnot. |

| news flash... |
[Nov. 24th, 2007|11:08 pm] |
For those of you on the facebook, Pirates are beating Ninjas by roughly 4,000. I haven't followed the numbers that closely, but it seemed like every time I noticed the Ninjas were winning. Chris pointed out that 4,000 is a pretty small margin for the 1.5 million people involved in the "battle."
So, if you're on the Facebook and you haven't picked a side: BE A PIRATE. |

[Oct. 14th, 2007|09:12 am] |
I thought about going into work today, because it is easier to get stuff done when no one is around. But I really should work on my paper, and I need to bake cupcakes for our "block party" this afternoon. So I'll probably just stay late a few nights this week (can't tomorrow because I have class). Chris is going to sneak me into the Gtown Law library with him in a little while, so we can both focus. Hopefully I'll be able to get past the recently obnoxious security, which lately has been requiring me to wear a STICKER indicating I am not a student every time I go to the gym, even though I am a fully-paid gym member with a card.
Depending on my schedule, in the next couple of days I'm going to get my DC library card. I had one in VA, but hadn't bothered yet for DC. I keep buying books from Amazon, reading them once, and giving them away. It dawned on me (ie Chris pointed out) that the library is ideal for such books...

| i'm not really a dallas fan |
[Oct. 8th, 2007|09:22 pm] |
But I have Romo as my fantasy football QB. And the Dallas defense. So I've been rooting for them a lot lately, which is odd. The Cowboys? Me?
The Broncos are sucking, though, so I don't feel too much like a traitor. Losing 41 to 3, against the Chargers?
I am slowly working on my term paper. It's due Nov. 19th. I have a plan to write ~4 pages per week, which means I need to write 4 pages in the next two hours or I'll be behind schedule. That's obviously not happening, but I think that as long as I try to stay on top of things I won't end up writing the entire thing two days before it is due. |

"Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords. Worth the $0.99 on iTunes. Especially if you're in a long-term, co-habitating relationship. Trust me. |

| lunch bags |
[Oct. 3rd, 2007|10:19 pm] |
Sorry to spam... but if you eat frozen meals for lunch everyday like I do, and if you like cancer-free breasts, then you should get one of the new Lean Cuisine Koman insulated lunch bags. And you should get them for your mom/sister/friend. They're only $9.95, which includes S&H, and $5 goes to breast cancer research.

I got the preppy argyle one. Sweet! |

| fu*kin' A |
[Sep. 16th, 2007|08:27 pm] |
So I was watching the end of the Denver/Oakland game on NFL.com, because they weren't showing it here. (And also because I went to a Nats game today, so I missed the start of the game and didn't feel like going out to a bar to watch). Anyway, "watching" the game on the computer is hard and not fun to do. The game amazingly went into overtime, and they showed the last bit on TV... I watched until Oakland kicked a game-ending field goal, cursed ("fu*kin' A"), and shut off the TV.
Chris came downstairs about 30 minutes or so later and asked how Cat and I were doing (she was sitting in my lap, preventing me from reading). I replied, "Cat is a little pissed Denver lost, but she'll get over it." "You're kidding, right?" asked Chris, and proceeded to tell me that the kick didn't count because Denver called a time-out, which no one realized for thirty seconds, and then Oakland missed their second attempt and Elam then kicked a FG to win the game. I thought he was joking. But NO, I am an idiot who shut off the TV and then sulked for a half an hour. I missed all the excitement and glory. Lame. |

[Sep. 8th, 2007|07:48 pm] |
sigh.
so i watched a lot of "america's next top model" today, which i should not do. then, after a college football & chinese delivery interlude, i started to get ready for a party. some of the attendees will be people from my new office, who i have not really spent time with outside of work.
so i was feeling a little nervous about coming across as cool, and vulnerable after watching all these beautiful & thin girls get rejected by tyra banks... so i put on a feminine shirt, did my hair in this overly hip way (where you pull the front straight back and poof it up, and then wear a pony-tail, so you have this odd poofy pony-tail combo). and i put on some dark eye makeup. i felt a little fake and i still felt fat, but whatever.
i came down the stairs, and chris, bless his heart, looked at me like i had put on a prom dress to go to the grocery store. after a brief discussion, in which i admitted that yes, i should just be myself, and no, i don't secretly harbor a desire to be a model, i wiped off some of the makeup, changed into an awesome new t-shirt & some pinstripe chuck taylors, and switched to a normal pony-tail. i feel much more like myself, and surprisingly thinner (perhaps because i am more covered). meh. insecurities suck.
this reminds me of a work-related meeting i had with a good friend of mine (we don't normally interact at the office). i was wearing a skirt suit that day, as well as some (reasonable) makeup, and after the meeting he said that it was strange seeing me in something other than jeans and a clever t-shirt. |

Those "fitness made simple" commercials scare me a little.
Still getting up at 5:30am and going to the gym before work. This makes me healthier but sleepier. Other than going to the gym, today I have done nothing but watch MTV and college football. And waste time on the internets. I should read something...
I have class on Monday nights this next semester. I'm looking forward to it.
Going great is everything, but provide details I will not. |

| my summer got a late start |
[Aug. 26th, 2007|11:48 am] |
I turned in my two take home finals last week (one at midnight on Monday and one at midnight on Wednesday). The experience of taking two classes this summer was similar to when I took two classes last fall - about one-half a class too many. So I am now convinced to stick with just one class per semester. I have four more classes to go, and now that I'm over half done with the program I am far more motivated to finish. Next fall I am taking "The Theory and Politics of Terrorism" at the Dupont Circle campus through the government program at JHU. I convinced my advisor to let me take it as an elective because it covers chem/bio terrorism. I'm really excited for the class, and really really wish I could get the reading list ahead of time. Alas, no...
But, I have been trying to enjoy the last bits of summer before the fall starts. More grilling out, more time with friends, more walks around DC. We had our Georgetown Law friends over last night for an abbreviated BBQ (cut short by a thunderstorm). We moved inside and chatted for several hours, and an awesome time was had by all. Our overly complicated, computerized central air conditioning unfortunately stopped working last night and is beyond my abilities to trouble-shoot. We're hoping to get it fixed soon, but thankfully it should be in the 80s for the next week or so. Sleeping was a little miserable last night, and we don't have screens on our security doors so the house is now a little buggy. Well, whatever.
Chris is gearing up for a week of job interviews, which is awesome. I'm going to play some Zelda here in a minute. |

[Jul. 16th, 2007|09:39 pm] |
Three point five out of six questions done. I'm too congested to know if I'm tired, so I'll keep plugging away. My boss told me to not come in so early tomorrow. Aye aye, sir.
Stupid cold. I hate my sinuses.
I've actually been really great about going to the gym before work every day for the past two weeks, but that's not happening tomorrow methinks. I'll get back on the exercise wagon on Wednesday.
Other lifestyle changes: I wear makeup every day now, I eat vegetables almost exclusively, and I carry a purse instead of a messenger bag. So I guess I'm growing up.
Although I am posting to livejournal instead of doing school work, so some things stay the same. |

| tomorrow will be a long day |
[Jul. 15th, 2007|08:01 pm] |
even if i went to bed right now, i still wouldn't get eight hours of sleep before i have to get up. and it is still light out.
and i'm getting a cold. and i really haven't made much progress on this horrible take home midterm monster. so i'm really looking forward to wednesday when i'm done.
but! next sunday is our one year wedding anniversary! we're going to the baseball game on friday night, to re-create our "rehearsal dinner." chris' parents got us really sweet box seats. saturday night we're going to dinner at this really nice restaurant in georgetown that has some sentimental value for us (they're not open on sundays). then on the anniversary proper we're going to make pizza and have some wedding cake and a bottle of wine from our honeymoon. so that is something to look forward to. |

| nap? |
[Jul. 14th, 2007|04:48 pm] |
Wow, it's pretty obvious when I'm not motivated. I dislike this midterm immensely. I should like it, and I should like the class, because it's on vaaccines and I love immunology and I love microbiology... and yet... the professor just makes it totally un-fun.
It's a take-home midterm, due Tuesday at midnight. But work has been crazy since I started my new job so I really need to do it today (I have to go back in tomorrow for an unknown amount of time). I did one of the six questions this morning.
Then I decided to go to the gym. Which made me decide that I should go swimming because that would be a fun workout change. Which I did. But then I got frustrated with my swim suit, which kept shifting to expose my nipples (yes, embarrasing). So afterwards I walked to ChinaTown and bought a new suit from CitySports. Then I went to Chipotle and got a veggie burrito and brought it home. And then I watched Man vs. Wild while eating the burrito, then I read everyone's blog and now I'm posting... and it's 4:51pm.
Yay, five more questions to go! But I'm so sleepy... |

| school and my loose association with time |
[Jul. 9th, 2007|11:11 pm] |
This was the second time where having an assignment (online quiz & take home midterm) due at midnight caused me to think it was due the next day. 12:00 July 10th is in 48 minutes, not 12 hours and 48 minutes. And definitely not tomorrow night.
Thankfully I was almost done with the midterm anyway. And I realized my mistake this morning, so I was able to come home after work and finish things up.
Annnnd I get the midterm for my other class on Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be more on top of things the next time around. |

[Jul. 5th, 2007|05:23 pm] |
Chris and I drove to my in-laws near Clemson, SC, for the long weekend (we stopped last night to pick up Chris's sister at Duke). It is soooo relaxing and nice here. Chris and his parents are off playing golf, and Chris's sister is taking a nap. And so I am taking advantage of the alone time to keep up with school.
Let me tell you, the best way to write a take-home midterm is sitting at a nice garden table on the side of a lake, enjoying the gentle breeze and dangling a flip flop from one foot. |

Have you seen the movie "Down With Love"? I can't decide if the movie is awesome, or if it sucks. I mean, I really like the campy-ness and I like all the actors. But I can see how it might suck. Anyone else? |

http://cityguide.aol.com/washington/screenonthegreen
I'm going to try to go to all of the Screen on the Green movies this year, unless I'm traveling. So if you're in DC on any of the following Mondays and want to join me, give me a call. The movies start around 8:00, although I will probably try to get there earlier to get a decent spot.
7/16 Annie Hall (I won't be broken hearted if I miss this one) 7/23 The Thing 7/30 Wait Until Dark 8/6 All the Kings Men 8/13 Casablanca |
